With three goals and five points against the Kootenay Ice by the North Vancouver product, Connor Rankin, Tri-City gave Lethbridge a great chance to get back into the playoff fight. Unfortunately for the hapless Canes, a broken stick on an attempted shot from the point resulted in an empty net goal and the second of the night for Tyson Ness of the Rebels. Yet another squandered opportunity to draw within four points of the Kootenay Ice for the final playoff position in the Eastern conference.
The Canes don't have to wait long for another opportunity to draw within striking distance of the Ice. The Canes will have an hour head start as they face off against the Hitmen at 7pm at the Saddledome Saturday night. Kootenay will try to match the motivation of Spokane as the Chiefs try to overtake the Tri-City Americans in the seesaw battle for the final home place spot in the Western Conference.
Maybe too tall an ask for the Canes now, but if the Canes can somehow find some heart and two points with it in Calgary Saturday night, the Tuesday-Wednesday home and home with the Ice should be very interesting for both clubs.
